I've finished my sixth journal! Orbit is officially done and I've loaded up the pages in the Journals section. I made my first zine ever too! Orbit turned out to be my most cohesive journal, in color and theme. I spent a lot of time exploring ideas for larger pieces in this one, and really embracing color pallets that brought me a lot of joy. Most of my reference from this time period are pictures I have taken of friends, and I'm so thankful I have people in my life that will let me paint their beautiful faces over and over again. I was living far away from almost all of my close friends and family, so it became a really wonderful way to feel connected to them. The end result, to me, looks like a reflection on the physical distances between loved ones, connecting with nature, and what that means for the soul. The end of this journal also marks the end of my time living in Aptos, CA, which is a place I connected with in a very deep and very unexpected way. I have moved a lot and no other place has felt so right to me as the whole of Santa Cruz County. This was a unique experience because I did not expect to move there, I was far away from everyone but my husband. We made a lot of road trips to see our friends and family, but always returned to this home base far and away from everyone. I named the journal "Orbit" for this reason, and I see it as a bit of a love letter to this time in my life. I wound up meeting some amazing people and made some wonderful friends there, and I miss them already. (shout out to Palace Arts in Capitola!!) This has been my favorite journal to date, and I'm so excited about the next one.
If you're interested in getting one of the zines they are listed in the Prints section of the shop!
